Assessment of manufacturing process efficiency in the dispersion of carbon fibers in smart concrete by measuring AC impedance

Smart concrete is a construction material designed to perform structural and self-sensing roles simultaneously. Self-sensing behavior stems from the inclusion of conductive fibers within cementitious matrix, reducing its electrical impedance enabling piezoresistive behavior. Good dispersion essential ensure good mechanical sensing properties. This study assesses efficiency different mixing sequences energies in dispersing mortar. The assessed with 0.1% 0.5% carbon fiber volume, by measuring AC impedance: those volume fractions correspond two percolation states: around threshold (0.1%), saturation zone (0.5%). showed that sequence has significant effect on final material, increasing energy relatively ineffective enhancing dispersion. Differences between were evident fibers, while, certain extent, saturating system reduced gaps sequences.
